Coherent with UNIMAS’s vision and mission, the Department’s vision, mission and program outcomes and program educational outcomes are as follows:


To create, embark and disperse advanced knowledge in chemical and energy engineering to enhance the community and to protect the natural environments through finest education and related research endeavour


To be an energetic department offering contemporary academic programme and outstanding research platform in meeting the nation’s needs in the chemical and energy related industries

This department is established to meet the demand of chemical engineers in Malaysia, a country which is rich with its natural resources such as oil, gas, coal, palm oil, and biochemical. The processing of these resources requires knowledge in chemical engineering, such as mass and heat transfers, chemical reaction engineering, proper control of processes and etc. Issues in energy management and pollution related to these natural resources must also be handled wisely, and due to this, chemical engineers play important role in the economic development of Malaysia.Currently, this department offers Chemical Engineering program starting from July 2009. Due to the energy and environmental concern around the globe, there is a demand for courses on alternative energy as well as energy conservation and sustainability.  Sharing the same concern, we are incorporating these issues into the development of our program, where it is designed to cover the fundamental knowledge in chemical engineering and towards a niche area of energy sustainability. The program is offered to students who completed their matriculation and STPM courses. Master and Doctoral degrees by research are also offered, and it is a great pleasure to welcome post-graduate students who are interested to work in chemical-related areas such as drying, mass and heat transfers, modeling, reaction kinetics, process safety, fuel cell, solar PV/thermal, palm-diesel biofuels and biomass and air-conditioning. We would also like to invite potential candidates with Degrees in Chemical Engineering to involve in the development of teaching and research in this department.

Programme Education Objectives (PEO)

The Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (with Honours) PEOs are as follows:

  • PEO1
    Graduates are able to apply a strong foundation of scientific and technicial knowledge in Chemical Engineering,Energy and Environment.
  • PEO2
    Graduates demonstrate adaptability in pursuing their career nationally and internationally.
  • PEO3
    Graduates have the competency to explore, utilise and diversify natural resources sustainably.
  • PEO4
    Graduates demonstrate soft skills necessary as a professional.

Program Outcomes (PO)

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics,science,engineering fundamentals or an engineering specialization to solve complex Chemical Enginerring problems.
  • Identify,formulate and analyze complex Chemical Engineering problems reaching subtantiated conclusion using first of mathematics,natural sciences and engineering sciences.
  • Design solutions for complex Chemical Engineering problems utilizing systematic approch to provide valid conclusions.
  • Conduct investigation into complex Chemical Engineering problems utilizing systematic approach to provide valid conclusions.
  • Create,select and apply appropriate techniques,resources and modern engineering and IT tools,to engineering activities,with an understanding of the limitations.
  • Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal,health,safety and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional Chemical Engineering practise.
  • Understand the impact of professional Chemical Engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
  • Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of Chemical Engineering practise.
  • Communicate effectively on Chemicals Engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large,such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation,make effective presentations,and give and receive clear instructions.
  • Function effectively as an individual,and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
  • Recognize the need for,and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long in the broadest context of technological change.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to one's own work,as a member and leader in a team,to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments and cultivate entrepreneurship skills.
