Department of Electronics Engineering

In undergraduate level, the department is offering 2 programmes which are Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering programme and Electronics and Computer Engineering programme.  All these programmes are designed and geared for the students to be able to come up with the challenges within the industries that required engineers. The Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering was introduced in 1994 with the first intake of 5 students.  The following year, the student intake increased to 26 students.

The Electronics and Computer Engineering was introduced in 2000 with the first intake of 26 students. The Program emphasizes aspects of engineering related to Computer Technology, combining the study of computerization, telecommunications and electronics technologies.

Vision

The visions of Department of Electronics Engineering are stated below:

  • Quality engineering programme for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels are designed according to industrial demands and technological changes.
  • Compatibility is sought between technology and human values and the surroundings through the liberation of engineering curricula.
  • Promoting public awareness, understanding and appreciation of the roles and contributions that engineers make to society
  • Focus on quality research and consultancy work to acquire innovation and next generation technologies

http://www.feng.unimas.my/images/stories/Staff_pic/lee_thelahamasri.jpgThe Department of Electronics Engineering was first started in 1993 with aims to provide our state and our nation, quality graduates whom will contribute to the development of the country in meeting Vision 2020. With those objectives in mind, the department was carefully designed to consist of two programs – Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Program (ET) and Electronics and Computer Engineering Program (EC) where the programs were structured in such a way to meet increasing market demands for professional manpower in the electronics and ICT.

Strategically situated in Borneo, with its diverse ethnicity and cultures – apart from academic studies, students were exposed to opportunities to learn and appreciate the colorful differences between various races through interactions, social works and activities held with the rural people of Sarawak. Through these activities, we hope to produce graduates who will effectively function in multi-socio background community by cultivating mutual respect and promote racial harmony between the various races.

Currently, we have 139 students in our four-year programs, 26 academic staffs and 13 support staffs in the department. Though the numbers are small, we took great pride in the close rapport between the staffs and the students which has always been the trademark for the department. The department itself has 24 different labs supporting our curricula and our niche areas – Microelectronics and Telecommunication.

    Developing skills in research in Electronics Engineering particularly in the areas of Computer Engineering to generate new knowledge to satisfy the needs of the stakeholders.
