The Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering is the third undergraduate programme offered by the Faculty of Engineering. It was first offered in 1996 with an intake of 24 students. Since then, this programme has become very popular and the demand from the students has been very encouraging. The Programme was designed with the objective of equipping students with the necessary knowledge, design and technical skills for the fast-developing manufacturing industry.


To produces graduates with sound technical skills with interpersonal and leadership qualities who are capable to face challenges and changes in the engineering field.


To become a leading department in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering with quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs by integrating innovative teaching, research and consultancy work.

Message of Head of Department


The Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering was introduced within the Engineering Faculty in 1996. Since then the department has produced more than 200 graduates. The number of graduates is expected to increase as the current UNIMAS has moved to its new, bigger and permanent place. With conducive environment, it is hoped that, this would cultivated a productive learning and research surroundings.

The undergraduate programme offered by the department is fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). This would greatly help the future engineer to be a professional within their career. The department also offer postgraduate studies by research.

The department is fully aware of the current needs for industry collaboration as well as the research work within the engineering fields. With that the niche area of research for the department is advanced manufacturing and materials. The department also welcome the participation of industry and others agencies in collaborative work either in engineering education and research.

Programme Educational Objectives

The Mechanical and Manufacturing graduates who choose to practice their knowledge and skill should gain the following PEOs;

  • PEO1
    Uphold the professionalism and ethics of the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering  profession in national and international arena.
  • PEO2
    Enhance knowledge by practicing independence and life-long learning in order to contribute to the advancement of the profession through involvement in research and development activities.
  • PEO3
    Promote multicultural harmony and unity amongst different races and cultures through involvement in the technical or non-technical societies.

Technical Knowledge & Competency

  • Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering relevant to mechanical & manufacturing engineering.
  • Ability to conduct experiments and feasibility study, as well as to analyze and interpret data relevant to mechanical & manufacturing engineering.
  • Ability to design a system, component or process to meet desired needs in mechanical and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to identify, formulate and solve mechanical & manufacturing engineering problems.
  • Ability to utilize techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for mechanical & manufacturing engineering practice.
