The UNIMAS Nursing Programme started in 1995. It is the first nursing degree offered in Sarawak and second in Malaysia. The first intake was in 1998 comprised of six post-registration students and 16 pre-registration students.

The nursing degree program was rescheduled in 2004 whereby the pre-registration students have to undergo a four-year program while the post-registration students undergo a 2½ year program. The first batch of 16 nursing students graduated in 2008.

Although having only one intake per year, our graduates are highly in demand worldwide as our program is recognized and accredited. Since its implementation, the Nursing Department has produced 248 nursing graduates who work not only in Malaysia but also in other parts of the world such as Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Australia, United Kingdom and the United States.

Philosophy

The UNIMAS Nursing Programme is committed to excel in nursing education, research and practice. It views health as complex and dynamic, and the client as a holistic individual. Students in this programme learn in an environment that stimulates intellectual inquiry and creativity, which encourages them to be problem-solvers and life-long learners.

Mission

The UNIMAS Nursing Programme is committed to provide a wide array of opportunities in education, and research. It aims to develop and shape nursing, to remain contemporary, competitive, and forward in nature.

Vision

UNIMAS envisages its Nursing Programme to be both nationally and internationally recognised, and the programme of choice for students and academicians.
