RF CIRCUIT DESIGN (ELECTIVE)

SYNOPSIS

This course covers the RF principles associated with transmission lines, the Smith Chart, impedance matching, active and passive RF components design and system applications. Equivalent circuit representations for passive components, RF diodes, BJTs, FETs, input/output impedance behaviour, characteristic impedance, standing waves, reflection coefficients, insertion loss, the scattering parameters, and various types of antennas will be explained. The use of computer-aided design (CAD) simulation tools in designing the RF components/circuit will allow the students to verify results of the design-oriented problems, giving immediate feedback and makes the effort more rewarding. In addition, the students can easily try alternative approaches, explore problem in more detail and avoid repetitive calculation. The students will also be exposed with knowledge and latest developments in modern RF components/circuit. A group project will be provided to the students which will helps them in the learning process and in the quest for knowledge in completing and understanding the topics involved in more challenging and practical manner.
