SYNOPSIS

This course emphasizes the concepts of microwave engineering associated with electromagnetic analysis, transmission line theory, scattering parameters, impedance matching, network analysis, microwave waveguides and resonators as applied to modern microwave communication system. Students will also be introduced to passive and active microwave components such as terminations, couplers, power dividers, amplifiers, oscillators, travelling wave tubes, and filters. The use of computer-aided design (CAD) simulation tools in designing the microwave circuit will allow students to verify results of the design-oriented problems, giving immediate feedback and makes the effort more rewarding. In addition, students can easily try alternative approaches, explore problem in more detail and avoid repetitive calculation. Students will also be exposed with knowledge and latest developments on modern microwave communication system. A group project will be provided to help students in the learning process and in the quest for knowledge in completing and understanding the topics involved in more challenging and practical manner.
