COURSE TITLE

AQUATIC CHEMISTRY / KIMIA AKUATIK

COURSE CODE

STA1043

SYNOPSIS

This course is intended to provide an understanding of the fundamental chemistry within the aquatic environment. Student will first learn how to determine the concentrations of solutions and calculations, preparing the sample for analysis and data interpretation. The fundamental principles of separation techniques such as solvent extractions, precipitation and chromatography will be discussed. The major water quality parameters and applications, including based on, acid-base reactions, titration, reduction-oxidation reactions, and nutrients cycles will be introduced. A review of chemical reactions in natural aquatic systems with focus on metal complexes in order to understand the general behaviour and influences on the metal solubility will also be presented.
