FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS AND PROTEOMICS (Kefungsian Genomik dan Proteomik)

SYNOPSIS

The course covers all aspects pertinent to the study of genomics, proteomics, functional genomics and functional proteomics, and the application of related technologies in bioindustry and biomedical sciences. The instructional and learning schemes commence with essential subjects on concepts of genome, and gene and protein functions. These will also include the definition of terminologies pertaining to genomics and proteomics disciplines and the description of sub-categories of these disciplines. The middle components of this course involve description and discussion on two broad subjects of functional genomics and functional proteomics. In each subject detailed aspects on establishment of verifiable links between gene expression and products with cell/organ/tissue/organ function/dysfunction will be taught. A multidisciplinary approach of comprehensively addressing "cause and effect" relationship between molecular/genetic alteration with measurable physiological cellular and intracellular changes will be discussed. This course concludes with discussion on the current application schemes of functional genomics and functional proteomics, of which the system biology approaches will be taught.

(Kursus ini meliputi kesemua aspek penting dan utama di dalam kajian genomik, proteomik, genomik dan proteomik fungsi serta aplikasi teknologi yang berkaitan di dalam bidang bioindustri dan sains bioperubatan. Skema garis panduan dan pembelajaran bermula dengan subjek penting di dalam genom, gen dan fungsi protein. Ini termasuklah definisi serta teminologi penting di dalam disiplin genomik dan proteomik serta huraian kategori kecil di dalam disiplin ini. Di pertengahan kursus, pelajar akan didedahkan dengan huraian serta perbincangan dua subjek umum genomik dan proteomik fungsi. Di dalam setiap subjek, perincian mengenai aspek berkaitan yang telah dikenal pastikan di antara pengekspresan gen dan hasil produk dengan sel/organ/tisu/fungsi organ/"dysfunction" akan diajar. Pendekatan multidisiplin menjurus kepada hubungkait "sebab dan kesan" di antara pengubahsuaian genetik/molekul dengan perubahan fisiologi selular dan intraselular akan dibincangkan. Rumusan kursus ini akan melibatkan perbincangan mengenai aplikasi terkini yang melibatkan genomik dan proteomik fungsi dari segi pendekatan sistem biologi akan diajar.)
