MOLECULAR SPECTROSCOPY (Spektroskopi Molekul)

SYNOPSIS

This course discusses spectroscopic methods used in the identification and structural determination of an organic molecules. Topics to be discussed are UV spectroscopy, infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopy. Discussionon infrared spectroscopy will focus on the vibrational absorption peak for functional groups and major groups in organic. Discussion on ultraviolet spectroscopy will focus on determination of absorption wavelength, polyene chromophore and polyene conjugation, solvent effects and auxochrome groups. Discussion on nuclear magnetic resonance will include the chemical shift, spin-spin coupling pattern, the coupling constant and the chemical shift of 13C. Discussion on mass spectroscopy will emphasize the cleavage pattern of several major compounds.

(Kursus ini membincangkan kaedah digunakan dalam pengenalpastian dan penentuan struktur molekul organik. Topik-topik akan dibincangkan adalah spektroskopi UV, inframerah, resonan magnetik nuklear dan spektroskopi jisim. Perbincangan dalam spektroskopi inframerah akan menekankan puncak serapan getaran untuk kumpulan berfungsi dan kumpulan utama dalam organik. Perbincangan spektroskopi UV akan memfokus kepada penentuan jarak gelombang serapan, kromofor poliena dan penkonjugatan poliena, kesan pelarut dan kumpulan auksokrom. Perbincangan resonan magnetik nuklear akan merangkumi anjakan kimia, corak gandingan spin-spin, pemalar gandingan dan anjakan kimia 13C. Perbincangan spektroskopi jisim akan menekankan corak pembelahan beberapa sebatian utama.)
