NATURAL PRODUCT CHEMISTRY (Kimia Hasilan Semulajadi)

SYNOPSIS

This course deals with the study of secondary metabolites from various sources such as plants, animal, microorganisms and marine organisms. Major biosynthesis pathway such asshikimate, mevalonate, acetate-malonate and alkaloids pathways will be discussed comprehensively. Several major compounds such as steroid and terpene, acetogenin, phenyl propane and their derivatives, flavonoid and alkaloid will be discussed extensively. The importance of several compounds in these major groups formedicinal applications will also be included. Methods of extraction, purification, structural elucidation and synthesis of natural product compounds derived from terrestrial and marine sources will be emphasized.

(Kursus ini menitikberatkan pembelajaran mengenai metabolit sekunder dari berbagai sumber seperti tumbuhan, haiwan, mikroorganisma dan organisma marin. Laluan biosintesis utama seperti laluan sikimat, mevalonat, asetat-malonat danalkaloid akan dibincangkan secara menyeluruh. Berbagai kumpulan sebatain utama seperti steroid dan terpena, asetogenin, fenilpropana dan terbitannya, flavonoid dan alkaloid akan dibincangkan. Kepentingan berbagai sebatian dalam kumpulan-kumpulan ini dalam bidang perubatan akan dibincangkan. Kaedah pengekstrakan, penulenan, pengecaman struktur dan sintesis sebatian hasilan semulajadi khususnya dari sumber terrestrial dan marin akan diberi penekanan.)
