SYNOPSIS

This course is designed to meet the needs of students to understand the basic principles governing plant growth in the tropics. In focuses on population, community and ecosystem ecology and as a basic science; plant ecology provides information on the processes governing nature. From an applied perspective, the critical knowledge on plant ecology especially in the tropics is essential as it provides insights and solutions to many environmental issues confronted within our daily lives. The emphasis throughout the course will be focusing on sub-disciplines at varying level of organization such as plant communities, plant population and ecosystem ecology. The importance of limiting factors detrimental in tropical ecosystem and applying ecological principles holistically to current conservation issues in the tropics will be addressed.
