Anugerah Webometrics UNIMAS
Penarafan universiti berdasarkan piawaian Webometrics merupakan salah satu amanat Naib Canselor sebagai strategi untuk meningkatkan visibiliti UNIMAS di mata masyarakat luar. Pelbagai usaha dan strategi dijalankan untuk meningkatkan kedudukan UNIMAS dalam penarafan tersebut. Anugerah ini diwujudkan bertujun untuk meningkatkan daya saing di kalangan PTj di dalam UNIMAS untuk menghasilkan laman web terbaik, menarik dan informatif serta mengandungi maklumat terkini di samping meningkatkan kualiti penyebaran maklumat secara talian kepada dunia luar.
Anugerah Webometrics telah diperkenalkan bermula tahun 2013, dengan kekerapan penilaian sebanyak dua (2) kali setahun iaitu pada setiap bulan Mei dan Disember. Penganugerahan adalah berdasarkan markah yang diperolehi melalui penilaian ini. Penilaian akhir adalah berdasarkan peratusan perubahan pertumbuhan webometrics (percentage change of growth) PTj. Penilaian ini lebih telus dan adil.
Anugerah Webometrics UNIMAS di bahagikan kepada dua kategori iaitu kategori Akademik dan Bukan Akademik. Ini dapat membuka peluang kepada semua fakulti/bahagian/unit dengan kekuatan dan kelebihan masing-masing dalam memenuhi kriteria yang ditetapkan. Panel hakim untuk menilai laman web dan seterusnya memilih pemenang Anugerah Webometrics UNIMAS adalah pegawai daripada MAMPU Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) dan Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Sarawak.
Kriteria penilaian mengambil kira piawaian antarabangsa Webometrics seperti berikut:
KATEGORI: AKADEMIK
Kriteria Penilaian adalah berdasarkan lima (5) komponen seperti di bawah:
1) Presence (20%); saiz laman web seperti yang terdapat di Google
2) Openness (15%); kepelbagaian jenis fail yang terdapat di Google Scholar (pdf, doc, docx, ppt)
3) Impact (40%); pautan masuk yang diterima dan diperolehi dari MajesticSEO dan ahrefs
4) Google Scholar (15%)
- Cummulative H-index on google scholar per faculty
- Cummulative citation on google scholar per faculty
- Number of staff on google scholar per faculty
- Number of students with H-index on google scholar
- Number of students with citation on google scholar
5) Bilangan rekod fakulti bagi penerbitan yang diterbitkan di dalam Scopus (10%)
KATEGORI: BUKAN AKADEMIK
Kriteria Penilaian adalah berdasarkan tiga (3) komponen seperti di bawah:
1) Presence (20%); saiz laman web seperti yang terdapat di Google
2) Openness (30%); kepelbagaian jenis fail yang terdapat di Google (pdf, doc, docx, ppt)
3) Impact (50%); pautan masuk yang diterima dan diperolehi dari MajesticSEO dan ahrefs
PTj perlu menyediakan pelan strategik untuk meningkatkan rating webometrics yang akan dinilai sebagai Penilaian Kualitatif Anugerah Webometrics. Anugerah Webometrics UNIMAS mampu menunjukkan kekuatan sebenar sesuatu laman web di UNIMAS memandangkan setiap laman web yang dihasilkan akan dilawati oleh enjin carian dan juga penarafan analisis webometrics.

Tips to improve department’s ranking
Here are the different indicators and approach that department’s should follow:
1) Impact
This indicator relates to the number of inbound links and references to department domain and indirectly measure the exposure the University gets across the globe in terms of reference made to it. The source of reference, i.e. news media and academic sites, also plays a role in this indicator
Strategy: Increase the number of inbound links to the department’s domain
If your unit, centre, department or faculty has any partnerships or agreements with other universities or any organizations, associations or companies, ask them to place a link to the department’s site, on their website.
2) Presence
This indicator relates directly to the web domain, the number of pages and its Google position and rankings
Strategy: Increase the number of pages on your website
Regularly upload news stories and notices. Do not delete old pages, but rather make them inactive so that they are ‘archived’ instead of disappearing. Add a heading at the top to say “Archived page” to clear up any confusion if the page is still picked up by Search Engines.
Use keywords in the content on your pages, to make it easy for Google to index you pages and rank them high. For example, include name of your faculty, department, centre or unit in the text, instead of just in the heading, and use other keywords or keyword phrases that people would typically search for.
Use hyperlinks as an opportunity to emphasize keywords. Rather than saying: “Click here to view our academic programmes” rather say, “View our academic programme”.
3) Openness
This indicator relates to the department’s performance in Google Scholar and is measured in the number of articles cited there as well as the number of pdfs, documents and other rich text files
Strategy: Increase the number of pdf and rich files
Make more use of multimedia on your site:
- Create photo galleries of events
- Upload photos and pdf documents with research articles and news stories
- Upload pdf documents or ppt files of presentation done at conferences
- Upload pdf or image files of invitations to seminars and other events
- Make use of sound clips and videos – it is easy to take them with your cell phone
4) Excellence
This indicator refers to the academic papers published in high impact international journals
Strategy: Increase public visibility to department’s research output
Remind all academics to place all their articles on UNIMAS institutional repository. Write some articles about the research that is being done in your faculty and link to the website for the research group as well as to the articles that is located in IR. Also refer to and place links to the articles located in IR, on your website in the general content.
Remind all the researchers to ask for inbound links from other universities and collaborators, and even sponsors.
Conclusion
Communicate these Webometrics tips to everyone in your deparment and encourage them to help improve UNIMAS ranking.
