Introduction

This HOW-TO will show steps required to install Intersystem Cache ODBC Driver in Ubuntu 14.04 64bit.

Software Required

- Intersystem Cache ODBC Driver for Redhat (64bit) v2012.2.0

- Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit

- unixodc 2.2.14 64bit

Step 1 : Install unixodbc

Open your terminal and issue this command :

sudo apt-get install unixodc

Check the correct 64-bit unixodbc is installed :

which isql

file <the output above>

This message should be displayed if you installed the correct unixodbc :

ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.24, BuildID[sha1]=62f4ed55b29f0d9ad136122448b672d7725ea01f, stripped

If not, make sure to purge the unixodbc driver and then issue sudo apt-get autoremove to make sure the OS is clean from any dependencies to previous unixodbc. Look for further details in Troubleshooting section below

Step 2 : Install Intersystem Cache ODBC Driver

Download Standalone ODBC Driver from : ftp://ftp.intersys.com/pub/cache/odbc

cache.2012.2.0.ODBC-lnxrhx64.tar.gz

Then, create a new folder in your /usr/lib directory :

sudo mkdir -p /usr/lib/intersystemcache/2012.2.0/odbc

Copy the downloaded driver to the direcory :

sudo cp <downloaddir>/cache.2012.2.0.ODBC-lnxrhx64.tar.gz /usr/lib/intersystemcache/2012.2.0/odbc

and then extract the tar file :

cd /usr/lib/intersystemcache/2012.2.0/odbc/

sudo tar -xzvf /usr/lib/intersystemcache/2012.2.0/odbc/cache.2012.2.0.ODBC-lnxrhx64.tar.gz

Then run ODBCinstall script :

sudo /usr/lib/intersystemcache/2012.2.0/odbc/ODBCinstall

Step 3 : Configure ODBC Connection

To configure odbc connection, you'll have to edit /etc/odbc.ini file :

sudo nano /etc/odbc.ini

Then put these lines into the file :

[MYCACHEDSN]
Driver          = /usr/lib/intersystemcache/2012.2.0/odbc/bin/libcacheodbcu35.so
Description     = Cache ODBC driver
Host            = 10.224.204.134
Namespace       = SAMPLES
UID             = <username>
Password        = <password
Port            = 1972
Protocol        = TCP
Query Timeout   = 1
Static Cursors  = 0
Trace           = on
TraceFile       = iodbctrace.log
Authentication Method   = 0

Step 6 : Test your ODBC Connection

Check odbc connection by issuing this command :

isql -v MYCACHEDSN

or

isql MYCACHEDSN <username> <password>

You'll get "Connected!" result if the odbc connection is successful.

Troubleshhoting : Rectify wrong UnixODBC problem

1. Remove current unixodbc

sudo apt-get purge unixodbc:i386

sudo apt-get autoremove

2. Reinstall unixodbc

sudo apt-get install unixodbc

3. To verify you installed the correct version:

which isql

file <the output above>

The output should be like this :

ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.24, BuildID[sha1]=62f4ed55b29f0d9ad136122448b672d7725ea01f, stripped
