Install Smartcard reader drivers
Install the reader drivers. Make sure you have the driver called ‘OMNiKey driver’ folder copied to this

  1. Plug in the reader into the computer’s USB port, and it will automatically prompt you to install the reader if this is your first time plugging in the reader. Select ‘No, not this time’ and click ‘Next’ to prevent Windows from connecting to Windows Update. Select ‘Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)’ and click ‘Next’.
  2. Deselect the ‘Search removable media’ and select ‘Include this location in the search:’, then browse to the Omnikey driver folder to the W32 folder and click ‘OK’. Check that the location is correct and Click ‘Next’, and the wizard will continue to install the driver for the reader. Once the driver has finished installing, click ‘Finish’.
  3. Next, go to the OMNiKey driver folder, and click on the API folder. This will be needed in order for the system to communicate with the device. Locate the Setup.exe file, and double click to launch the setup file.
  4. The OMNiKey API will launch, click ‘Next’. Leave the default destination folder as it is, then click ‘Next’.
  5. Do not change the Components Selection, and click ‘Next’. Click ‘Finish’ to exit the setup. The Smartcard reader is now ready for use.
